Appalachian State University Admissions
The University is also part of the Appalachian Learning Alliance and provides degree completion programs on the campuses of ten community colleges. A limited number of courses are offered every semester on the community college campuses to help students avoid commuting to the University.
Applications to the undergraduate programs are accepted through March 15 annually, but students are encouraged to apply early for the fall term as spaces are offered on an available basis. There is an application fee of $45. In addition to the application form and fee, students must provide high school transcripts, test scores, and college transcripts if appropriate. Applications can be submitted on-line.
Admissions to the graduate programs are made through the Cratis T. Williams Graduate School. Graduate students must provide the following for admissions to the graduate school: application and fee; three letters of recommendation; test scores as required for the program to which one is applying; and an official transcripts of all other postsecondary academic work. Students must have a baccalaureate degree. A graduate application has an application fee of $35.
Appalachian State bases admissions on more than simply grade point average. Decisions are based on completion of the minimum course requirements (those high school courses required for entrance in the University), as well as a combination of high school achievement and scores on the ACT or SAT standardized exam. The average incoming freshman has a high school grade point average of 3.67, an SAT score of 1122, and an ACT scorer of 25. Freshman applicants should apply early in the senior year of high school, around September 1. Appalachian State does accept high school Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) credits.
