Sports facilities include a stadium, a new indoor arena for volleyball and basketball, a baseball field, a gymnasium, and a series of trails for cross-country runners that go through wooded hills.
The Appalachian Mountaineers compete in the NCAA in the sports of baseball, football, wrestling, field hockey, softball, volleyball, and men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, and track. The Athletics Program is currently amid an expansion campaign estimated at $30 million that includes new turf for the football stadium, increasing locker rooms and other space at the field house, increasing space for training and office use, converting the existing gymnasium into an indoor practice facility for multiple uses, and adding approximately 4,500 seats to the existing stadium space. The improvements will also increase space for students and other visitors, as well as make the space more luxurious.
